Not long ago Europe was Matthew Groves’ stage. In search of a career as a professional footballer Groves travelled the continent collecting little dust in each of his footballing outposts before he settled in Malta. During this extensive pilgrimage, Groves garnished knowledge. Lots and lots of knowledge. About a sport that has consumed him since the first day he could kick a Nerf football.
The globetrotting Groves has returned to Canada with his suitcase full of football knowledge. He is now the Senior Trainer at Master's Futbol Academy - a family-run enterprise that continues to touch an infinite number of young footballers’ lives.
Touchline Insider sat down with Groves to reflect on his playing career, his collection of adopted football methodologies and his recent project of leading MFA’s Senior men’s team throughout the 2025 League1 Ontario campaign.
